Pope Leo XIV jokes young Spaniards would pick Bad Bunny over him during Madrid visit this weekend

Pope Leo XIV joked Saturday that he knows who would win if young people had to choose between seeing him or Latin pop singer Bad Bunny this weekend.

The Pope, who began a weeklong visit to Spain on Saturday, acknowledged that he is competing for attention with the Puerto Rican superstar while in Madrid. Many young Spaniards, he suggested, would likely choose the Grammy-winning artist over the pontiff.

"If they are confronted with the question ‘Do you want to go see Bad Bunny or do you want to go to see the pope?’ I think many will see Bad Bunny," Leo told reporters aboard the papal plane before his arrival.

"But I think there will also be a few here to see the pope," he added. "And that says something, you know."

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is currently performing a 10-show run in Madrid as part of his Spanish tour.

The pope said many young adults appear to be searching for meaning and expressed hope that his visit could help "awaken" something within them.

Despite his remarks, thousands of young Catholics turned out to greet the pope.

Leo later rode through the crowd in his popemobile while a Spanish rendition of the 1970s musical "Godspell" played.

The Stanley Cup Final shifted to Las Vegas for Game 3 with the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes knotted at 1-1 after splitting the opening two games in Raleigh.

And, as you'd expect from the Golden Knights, this one got started with some theatrics, plus a little help from the city's latest hope at quarterback, who was getting in on the festivities.

That's right. Who better to put on siren duty than Raiders draft pick and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza?

There was a big surprise when the game got underway: Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb — who took a slapshot straight to the face on Thursday in Game 2 — was in the Vegas lineup, albeit with a full cage.

It goes without saying, but hockey players are just built different.

The first period was physical but ultimately scoreless, with Carolina getting more offensive opportunities, leading Vegas in shots 7-2.

Vegas captain Mark Stone found the back of the net just 36 seconds into the second period; however, it was ruled offside after a Carolina challenge.

A few minutes later, Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel found the back of the net, but Carolina challenged this goal as well after Vegas' Ivan Barbashev made contact with Canes goalie Frederik Andersen's head.

It was another cut-and-dried review that kept a Golden Knights tally off the board.

The first penalty of the night was a self-inflicted one, when the Hurricanes were called for too many men, and it didn't take long for Tomas Hertl to make them pay.

Then, just moments later — 16 seconds to be exact — Mitch Marner was credited with a goal after Carolina defenseman Sean Walker tipped his shot into the back of his own net.

But, hey, those own goals are no fun; Marner wanted to get one the old-fashioned way, which he did.

What's that, you want more?

Well, Mitch Marner — who is having the playoffs of his life — had more for you.

That's right, Marner potted a hat trick in just six minutes and 10 seconds. That's an NHL record.

Although, I bet The Rocket's first goal of his lightning-quick hatty wasn't an own goal, but hey, they count the same.

What a performance. Maybe he was just doing that so that the next time the team puts him on a rally towel it actually looks like him.

After the second intermission, Andersen was pulled in favor of Brand Bussi, who made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut.

Carolina was in a state of disarray in the third, and after going on a power play, Sebastian Aho slashed Marner, who was headed to the net on a short-handed breakaway.

Marner was awarded a penalty shot, but Bussi didn't give him much to shoot at, and Marner missed his attempt on the backhand.

Carolina's Jordan Martinook got the Hurricanes on the board a little under halfway through the third period to make it 4-1.

Just moments later, Taylor Hall tacked on another one to cut Vegas' lead to 4-2.

And, while they're doing goals, how about you just throw a Jordan Staal tally in there?

Carolina scored those three goals in 39 seconds, the fastest three goals by a single team in Stanley Cup Final history, making what looked like a no-doubt Vegas win into a game once again.

Carolina killed off a delay-of-game penalty, which was crucial for staying in the game.

Then, Vegas' Shea Theodore airmailed a puck into the stands for delay of game, giving Carolina a late power play.

Then — as if it couldn't get wilder — Andrei Svechnikov tied the game on the power play and with the goalie pulled.

And with that, it was off to overtime for the second game in a row.

In the extra frame, both teams got their share of chances and opportunities to put a pin in this one and hit the craps tables, but the first overtime period didn't yield a winner.

In the second overtime, we finally got a winner, and as wild as this game was, it was only fitting that the game-winner would be unbelievable.

That's the same Shea Theodore, by the way, who skied the puck into the stands to set up the tying goal, and he did it after 39 minutes of ice time.

What. A. Game.

I think after this one, Game 4 — which will be on Tuesday in Las Vegas — is officially appointment viewing.

Caitlin Clark's Fever blow double-digit lead to Liberty in another disastrous collapse

Caitlin Clark was part of another disastrous collapse on Saturday night, as the Indiana Fever blew a double-digit lead to the New York Liberty.

After the Fever led by as many as 12 in the second half, the Liberty stormed back, capitalizing on Indiana turnovers to secure an 83-75 victory. Blowing leads is becoming a recurring trend for Clark's squad, which has suffered similar collapses against the Washington Mystics and Golden State Valkyries this season.

The Liberty pulled off the win without superstar Sabrina Ionescu, who was sidelined Saturday due to a lingering injury.

But Clark wasn't the Fever's biggest problem on Saturday. Star teammates Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell combined for eight turnovers and a 36.1 field goal percentage.

Former first lady Dr. Jill Biden gave an update on former President Joe Biden’s cancer on Saturday, saying that though the 83-year-old will live with cancer for the rest of his life, he maintains a busy schedule, but has slowed down.

Biden explained during a discussion with political commentator and "The View" co-host Ana Navarro for her new book "View From the East Wing: A Memoir," that while her husband was still president and had a team of doctors, she mentioned that he was getting up seven times a night to go to the bathroom, and she assumed that someone would follow up on that.

But she said when they left the White House in 2025 and his problem persisted, she said she told him he had to go see a urologist and in his first appointment the doctor said, "There’s something there," and the former president was given a CAT scan.

"I never imagined it would be prostate cancer," she admitted. "I just never imagined it."

While she said in some cases prostate cancer can be "cured, "the problem with Joe — it's stage four, and it has metastasized to his bones. So that puts things on a whole different level. I mean, Joe will have to live with cancer for the rest of his life, which means he's on special medicines."

She said he also went through radiation, which involved going from where they live in Delaware to Philadelphia constantly for five weeks.

"You know, it takes a toll," she said, adding that on Friday night her husband was in South Dakota for a Democratic Party event, on Saturday he was at a friend’s wedding, and Sunday he’ll be in Philadelphia.

"I have to make sure he gets the right medications," she explained. "I'm the one talking to the doctors. I'm the one setting up the appointments. I'm the one to make sure that he eats well."

Joe Biden announced his cancer diagnosis in May 2025.

Earlier this week, the former first lady told the "Today" show that her husband is "doing OK."

"He's out making speeches, and he's traveling on Amtrak," she added. "He was just at the Delaware Memorial Bridge for the veteran's ceremony. So yeah, he's doing a lot, but he has stage 4 cancer."

Biden added that it was also "hurtful" to her when she saw Democrats, many of whom had been their friends for decades, publicly calling for Biden to drop out of the race.

But she said Biden reconciled with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was believed to have been privately leading calls for him to leave the race, at the funeral for Tatiana Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy, in January.

The 75-year-old admitted that she still hasn’t spoken to Pelosi.

She also said she believes there has been a "double standard" in the conversations around her husband’s age and mental acuity when compared to President Donald Trump, who will turn 80 on June 14.

For the next president after Trump leaves office, Biden said she’s looking for someone with integrity, trustworthiness, and empathy, but didn’t name any names.

"They're the characteristics of the American people," she said. "That's who we are."

As America marks the 82nd anniversary of D-Day on Saturday, a group of women whose wartime labor helped sustain the Allied war effort gathered in New Orleans to remember a generation that is rapidly disappearing.

More than 30 surviving "Rosie the Riveters" gathered at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, where they were honored for helping power the wartime industrial effort that supported Allied forces during World War II.

"Every day, memories of World War II — its sights and sounds, its terrors and triumphs — disappear," according to The National WWII Museum's site.

The women were recognized during the Museum's annual Dr. Hal Baumgarten D-Day Commemoration and as recipients of the institution's 2026 American Spirit Award, the Museum's highest honor.

The gathering came as Americans marked the anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France on June 6, 1944.

During World War II, millions of women entered the workforce as labor shortages transformed factories, shipyards and defense industries across the U.S.

Among those honored was Delphine Klaput, 101, who worked at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft factory in Baltimore during the final years of the war.

According to NOLA.com, Klaput was entrusted with guarding aircraft blueprints while helping oversee teams building planes destined for the war effort.

The outlet reported that Klaput kept the blueprints close because "there was a war on, after all."

Klaput told NOLA.com she still remembers walking through the sprawling aircraft factory after growing up in a Pennsylvania coal-mining town and asking herself, "What did I get myself into?"

Francesca Masters, 104, worked on B-24 Liberator bombers at Michigan's Willow Run plant and told NOLA.com she earned $1 an hour while sending much of her paycheck home to support her family.

Her brother, Salvatore, was later killed in the Battle of the Bulge.

"It was our duty," Masters told the newspaper.

"They truly didn't think they had done anything special," Lisa Brown, daughter of Rosie the Riveter Virginia Rusch, told NOLA.com.

Rusch said she always wanted to work and dropped out of school because she wanted to contribute. From 1942 to 1944, she soldered airplane parts on an assembly line, repeating the process day after day as Allied forces battled overseas.

The National WWII Museum said the legacy of the "Rosies" extends far beyond wartime production.

Through their work, the women "reshaped women's place in American society and continue to inspire women and girls around the world today."

As the ceremony drew to a close, Klaput reflected on the bond shared by the shrinking number of surviving Rosies.

"No matter where you go, if there's a 'Rosie,' you're gonna see this," she said before reaching for the hands of fellow honorees.

Then she repeated the phrase that became synonymous with the women who helped sustain America's wartime production effort.

Woman allegedly choked subway rider, yelled antisemitic remarks in attack caught on video: police

A 23-year-old New York woman was arrested on hate crime charges, after she allegedly punched, kicked and choked a woman on a New York City subway last weekend in an incident caught on video, the NYPD confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Diana Smith, 23, of the Bronx, appeared in video shot by the victim last weekend to yell that "Jews are eating kids!" while riding the crowded subway, and before she told the victim, "You’re a Jew. I can smell the kids."

The video then appeared to show the attack, and as other riders reacted, Smith said, "It’s OK for her to eat a kid, but I can’t choke her down?"

Girl known as 'Chelsea Jane Doe' ID'd 26 years after mutilated body found hundreds of miles from home state

Authorities have identified a Pennsylvania teenager nearly 26 years after her murder in a rare case where investigators knew the killer's identity long before they knew the victim's name.

The FBI's Boston field office, Massachusetts State Police and Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that "Chelsea Jane Doe" has been identified as Tiffany Bradley, a 16-year-old from Allentown, Pennsylvania, through advanced DNA testing and investigative genetic genealogy.

Bradley's killer, Eugene McCollom, pleaded guilty years ago and is serving a life sentence. But despite securing a conviction, investigators spent decades trying to determine the identity of the teenage victim.

"We have waited so long for this day," Massachusetts State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble said during a news conference. "It is rare to have a case like this one, where we knew the suspect's name before the victim's."

"They found a body of an unknown female," Hayden said. "Tragically, she had been cut in half. She was without her head and without any hands."

Wiggins thanked investigators for continuing to pursue the case long after the killer had been identified.

"It is totally amazing that, after 26 years, people cared enough to give her a name and return her to our family," she said. "The wheels of justice run slowly, but surely."

Unless you have a memory like Dory from "Finding Nemo" or you live under a rock, you’re aware of the Russia and Ukraine conflict that has been ongoing since 2022. That conflict has not only affected politics at home and abroad, but American and international professional sports as well.

For example, the NHL did not include Russia in its 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025, though Russia would arguably have one of the strongest rosters in the field. Russian national teams remain suspended from most international hockey competitions due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The suspension was imposed by the International Ice Hockey Federation, which has repeatedly extended it, citing security concerns and the inability to guarantee safe participation in international events. As a result, Russia has been excluded from tournaments such as the World Championships and other IIHF competitions.

Because of that fact, we can assume the NHL was following suit, though it was never clearly stated why they excluded Russia from the 4 Nations Face-Off, organized by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association. NHL officials indicated through omission that the geopolitical issues caused them to kick Russia to the curb.

During the celebration, two Andreeva supporters were seen waving a Russian flag, but security quickly instructed them to put it away. That's a reflection of how hard the tennis world has worked to distance itself from Russia.

Throughout the tournament, and for much of the season, Sabalenka and other players from Russia and Belarus have been repeatedly asked whether they condemn the war in Ukraine or feel pressure from Ukrainian players. Those questions continue to surface in post-match press conferences, particularly after high-profile matches against Ukrainians such as Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk.

Her answers throughout 2025 and 2026 have been remarkably consistent. Sabalenka has repeatedly said she does not support the war and that she is "just a tennis player" with no control over political decisions. She has also expressed frustration with athletes being drawn into geopolitical debates.

All I'm saying is: When is enough enough? Why is there a double standard when it comes to geopolitical issues and athletes? Russian athletes are routinely asked to answer for the actions of their government, yet athletes from other countries are rarely subjected to the same scrutiny or treated as though they are personally aligned with war criminals or dictators.

The virtue signaling has to end. There are legitimate criticisms for Putin and his regime we should focus on, but acting as if these actions against athletes are helping stop a war, or making some sort of positive difference in the conflict, is laughable. Enough with the selective outrage.

At least a dozen shot near festival in Ohio; manhunt for suspects underway

A search is underway for the suspects in a shooting that left at least 12 people wounded near a festival on Saturday in Toledo, Ohio, authorities said.

The Toledo Police Department said officers responded around 5:37 p.m. to a report of a shooting near Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue, close to the Old West End Festival.

Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Authorities said at least 12 people were wounded, including two victims who remain in critical condition.

FIVE INJURED IN SHOOTING OUTSIDE DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND BAR FOLLOWING SUSPECTED ALTERCATION, POLICE SAY

Deputy Chief Joseph Heffernan said during a news conference that investigators believe the shooting involved at least two gunmen.

"They were probably shooting at each other," Heffernan said.

Investigators said they are actively searching for the suspects involved.

As of late Saturday night, authorities have not released descriptions of any suspects or identified a possible motive.

Heffernan lamented that the shooting disrupted a longtime community tradition.

"It's just a shame, you know, a few people, for whatever reason, going through their heads, decide to disrupt something that has been a beloved community event for many, many, many years," Heffernan said.

"We had the security in place, just so that something like this wouldn't happen and unfortunately, best laid plans, it happened anyway," he added.

Many of the victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to police. Ten victims were reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities said the victims ranged in age from 14 to 61, with most in their 20s.

"As far as violence, this is over the top," Investigative Lt. Dan Gerken said during a news conference.

Gerken urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz urged residents to remain united in the aftermath of the shooting, while praising first responders for their response to the incident.

"Toledo has faced more adversity over the years than most cities, and our citizens always rally together and pull through," he said in post on Facebook. "This will be no exception."

"What happened today at the @OldWestEnd Festival, sadly, has happened in too many American cities," he continued. "But we should never shrug our shoulders and accept it as the price of living in a free society. As a country, we must do better. Toledo is resilient & it will emerge stronger because of the unity we show in this moment — and because of the brave men & women of @Toledo_PD & @ToledoFire, whose swift actions today saved lives."

Kapszukiewicz told WTOL 11 that he believes all victims are expected to survive.

Residents and visitors were urged to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said he was "deeply concerned" by the reported shooting and expressed confidence that those responsible would be caught.

"Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence," he continued. "Fran and I are praying for everyone impacted by the incident at the Old West End Festival, and we are confident that law enforcement will locate the suspects involved in this senseless crime."

Police said officers remain on scene and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Kevin Berry told The Associated Press he was sitting in a neighborhood arboretum listening to live music with friends when he heard several gunshots ring out.

"Everybody hit the deck," he said, adding that he later saw at least five people suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Old West End Festival is a two-day event that began Saturday, according to its website.

Organizers said the festival features live music, food vendors and a variety of other attractions.

Drinking alcohol may influence cravings for certain foods in a surprising way, study suggests

If you find yourself reaching for a bag of chips after a few drinks, hormones may be partly to blame. Researchers suggest they can influence food cravings and may contribute to significant overeating.

Studies examining how alcohol affects people’s eating habits have produced inconsistent results, University of Sydney researchers reported in Obesity Reviews.

Alcohol on its own always adds calories, but how much it contributes to people’s total caloric intake depends on their dietary habits, the scientists observed.

Previous research suggests alcohol consumption may increase levels of FGF21, "a hormone that increases savory (umami) preference and reduces sweet preference," the researchers wrote. In "minimally processed food environments," people seek foods that are both satiating and high in protein, and they limit the number of calories they eat.

On diets rich in ultra-processed savory foods and/or high-fat unprocessed meats, however, consumers eat foods that taste like the minimally processed foods, but that fail to deliver protein. The researchers refer to these foods as "protein decoys." People who indulge in ultra-processed foods tend to eat many more calories, because they’re not satisfied without protein.

The researchers analyzed previous experimental work that involved interviews with more than 9,000 Australians. The survey found that people who reported drinking alcohol also reported eating a lot more savory foods and fewer sweet foods than the non-drinkers. People’s savory food intake increased on days they reported drinking.

People who reported drinking and consuming a savory diet with the low-protein, high-fat characteristics of an ultra-processed diet took in 40% more calories than the daily recommendation — before factoring in the alcohol.

"Results suggest that alcohol may have contributed to the obesity epidemic," because it increases people’s appetites, and people consuming highly processed foods eat more of the unsatiating food, the researchers hypothesized.

The researchers wrote that their observations could explain why studies on alcohol’s effect on caloric intake have been so varied, because it likely depends on the types of foods you’re eating while drinking.

They also noted that their studies did not directly measure FGF21 levels, but that they applied previous information gathered through scientific studies to make their observations. They wrote that they could not provide direct evidence of FGF21’s role in food intake.

The researchers also acknowledged the limitations of their research, since it was largely based on secondary evidence from a population survey.

"Advice to limit highly processed foods, including savory snack foods, may be even more critical than previously thought for reducing the risk of weight gain among adults who drink regularly," they concluded.

Registered dietitian Morgan Beemiller, RD, LDN, based in Ohio, said she was not surprised by this study’s findings.

"Alcohol is known to affect several biological and behavioral systems that influence food cravings," she told Fox News Digital.

According to Beemiller, alcohol alters appetite-regulating signals and affects the brain’s reward circuits. It also changes taste perception, she said.

To avoid the ultra-processed overeating pitfall, Beemiller recommended people eat a substantial meal prior to drinking.

"Include protein, fiber-rich carbohydrates and healthy fats," she advised. "This combination helps slow alcohol absorption and reduces urges for convenience foods later."

Chicken, rice and salad or salmon, potatoes and broccoli are sensible pre-drink meals, Beemiller said.

"Decide on your late-night food before you start drinking," she said. "If healthy food is already available, you are less likely to order or make convenience foods later in the evening."

People should keep minimally processed snacks such as nuts, cheese, fruit, hummus and vegetables and hard-boiled eggs, readily available, Beemiller said. It’s also important to stay hydrated, she noted. Alternating alcoholic drinks with water can reduce total alcohol consumption, improve hydration and reduce hangover symptoms.

While Beemiller said evidence suggests less alcohol is generally better for health, she added there are a few ways to reduce the negative impact if someone chooses to drink.

Keep your intake to a moderate level. Health risks rise the more people drink. Choose low-sugar options such as dry wines, light beers and cocktails that use fresh juices rather than syrups. Avoid high-sugar drinks, such as margaritas, daiquiris, sweet dessert wines and hard lemonades. Also beware of high-calorie mixers. Opt for sparkling water instead.

"Choose alcohol for enjoyment, not stress management," Beemiller said.

Golden Tempo, 2026 Kentucky Derby winner, takes home 158th Belmont Stakes

It's a two of a kind for Golden Tempo.

The winner of last month's Kentucky Derby, who sat out the Preakness Stakes, forfeiting a shot at the Triple Crown, took home the victory at the 158th Belmont Stakes in New York on Saturday.

Renegade, similar to the Derby, closed as the 8-5 favorite, followed by Chief Wallabee and Emerging Market at 5-1 and Golden Tempo at 6-1.

Just like the Derby, Golden Tempo was well at the back of the pack but began to make his move at the final turn. At one point, Golden Tempo was neck-and-neck with Commandment, but Golden Tempo was able to get away from the pack in the final stretch.

A $1 exacta paid out $55.67, while a 50-cent trifecta won $51.32, and a 10-cent superfecta brought in $23.79. Somebody lucked out on a pick-six — picking six consecutive winners in a row at the track. A $1 pick-six paid out $9,640.39 once Golden Tempo crossed the finish line.

This was the second consecutive year in which the Derby winner skipped out on the Preakness to tune up for the Belmont. Last year, Sovereignty won the Kentucky Derby before not traveling to Pimlico Race Course and then taking home the Belmont.

"We made our decision, he won today, and we're happy about that," trainer Cherie DeVaux said after the race.

Due to the change in course since 2024, the race ran at 1 ¼ miles instead of its usual mile-and-a-half. Saratoga is home to the annual Whitney, Travers, and Jim Dandy Stakes.

This year's Belmont did not feature any horses from the Preakness Stakes three weeks ago and just four from the Kentucky Derby in early May: Renegade, Commandment, Chief Wallabee, and Golden Tempo.

All four of them finished in the top four.

Kyra Sedgwick is sharing why the upcoming 250th anniversary of America's independence is special to her.

During a recent appearance on "Today," the 60-year-old actress revealed that one of her ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence, telling the hosts that knowing that "means a lot."

"I mean, as an American, democracy means a lot to me. The Constitution means a lot to me. And the Declaration of Independence is obviously what it's based on, and I just think that it's a great honor and responsibility," she said. "William Ellery, he was a long way back there. Yeah, he was a lawyer, he was amazing. The original writers of that Declaration were pretty extraordinary."

She was on the show to promote her latest film, "Carolina Caroline," in which she plays the alcoholic mother of the main character.

"When it came to promoting my own fame and taking my kids to premieres and making them watch my movies and showing them an article in the paper…we really didn’t do that," Bacon said. "We really avoided it. I think we really felt like it would be nice for them to have some…we knew how weird this life was."

Although the couple chose to keep their children out of the spotlight, they chose that path for themselves when they got older.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau remembered through new playground for special needs children

The death of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew was an unimaginable tragedy, but their family is making sure that they continue to do a lot of good on their behalf.

This week, the Gaudreau family helped dedicate a new adaptive playground for children with special needs at Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, New Jersey.

The playground's name? "The Gaudreau Brothers' Wings of Hope & Chrysalis Corner."

"When the sign was unveiled, all I kept thinking about was the boys, how they would be so excited to see this," the brothers' mother, Jane Gaudreau, said, according to NHL.com. "This school has been part of our family for so long. I'm so proud that the playground is named in honor of them."

The playground was built using funds raised by The Gaudreau Family 5K. The first annual event was held last year, while the second was held just last month.

Gaudreau said that the event raised "98 percent" of the funds to build the playground, which was completed with a community build.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed after being hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bikes in New Jersey back in August 2024.

At the time, Gaudreau was playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets after first spending nearly a decade with the Calgary Flames. Meanwhile, Matthew had played college hockey at Boston College, just like his brother, and went on to play in the AHL and ECHL.

Gaudreau was honored earlier this year at the Olympic Games in Milan when the U.S. Men's Hockey team — which he was likely to have been a part of — won gold. The team took post-game photos with a No. 13 jersey as well as Gaudreau's children.

Sean M. Higgins, the man accused of killing the Gaudreaus, faces six charges, including two counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter.

According to ESPN, a motion to dismiss some of the charges was denied last month, and Higgins' next court date is scheduled for June 16.

Spearfisherman killed by suspected 15-foot shark after third fatal attack in less than a month

A fisherman was killed late Saturday morning after an attack by a suspected nearly 15-foot shark off the coast of Western Australia.

The unidentified 35-year-old was spearfishing near Michaelmas Island, a protected sand cay on the Great Barrier Reef not far from the city of Albany.

The island is around 240 miles south of Perth, the state’s capital.

His was the third fatal shark attack in the country in less than a month.

SHARK ATTACK DEATHS SURGE ABOVE DECADE AVERAGE IN 2025

The man was brought by boat to shore, but paramedics weren’t able to revive him.

On May 24, 39-year-old Michael Jensz was killed after suffering head injuries while spearfishing along the Great Barrier Reef off the country’s northeast coast.

A bull shark is suspected in his death.

On May 16, 38-year-old Steve Mattabonni was killed by a white shark at Rottnest Island, a popular resort in Western Australia. He was also spearfishing.

In January, a 12-year-old also died a week after he was attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbor.

Australia usually averages around three shark deaths per year.

"We do see an increase in larger sharks this time of the year, particularly chasing the sardine and the salmon along the coast, which is quite normal," commercial fisherman Gregory Sharp told the Australian Broadcasting Company Saturday.

He added that sharks also tend to attack in areas "where there's a lot of seals, and the island area in King George Sound is renowned for seals."

Michaelmas Island is located in King George Sound.

Western Australia Premier Roger Cook said in a Facebook post Saturday that he was deeply saddened to hear of this morning's fatal shark attack in Albany.

This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with the victim's family and friends, as well as the first responders."

Dodgers' Blake Treinen was the only player not wearing a pride hat during pride night, and I support him

Unless you’re the Texas Rangers, LGBTQ Pride Night has become a tradition for every Major League Baseball team, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team went as far as unveiling a tribute in centerfield to "LGBTQ trailblazers" Glenn Burke and Billy Bean (no, not the "Moneyball" Billy Beane). The whole team also wore pride-colored hats for the occasion. All but one.

Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen is an outspoken Christian who has been unashamed to share his faith and conservative thoughts. When the Dodgers decided to reinvite and honor the anti-Christian drag nun group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, he made his stance clear. Treinen said that he was "disappointed to see The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence being honored as heroes at Dodger Stadium. Many of their performances are blasphemous, and their work only displays hate and mockery of Catholics and the Christian faith."

After the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Treinen made a subtle, yet profound statement by writing Kirk’s name on the side of his hat bordered by christian crosses.

DODGERS BREAK OUT ANNUAL PRIDE NIGHT HATS, DRAWING BRUTAL REACTIONS

Following the Dodgers' thrilling Game 7 victory over Toronto, where Treinen was the winning pitcher, he said , "It's the favor of the Lord on my body. I've been praying just to be ready and able for this team when they need me."

When presented with the opportunity to make another bold stance for his Christian faith, Treinen refused to participate in the display of the LGBTQ pride and stuck to his moral and biblical convictions. While other self-professed Christians on his team, including shortstop Mookie Betts and manager Dave Roberts, decided to follow the crowd by wearing the hats, Treinen refused.

For clarification, another outspoken Christian on the team, catcher Alex Call, could be seen wearing a headband throughout the evening. He was also the player who dumped the water cooler on Freddie Freeman after his walk-off home run sealed a 1-0 victory. Because of that, I couldn't tell from rewatching the broadcast whether Call ever wore the hat while he was in the dugout. If he refused to wear it as well, I applaud him.

Notably, now-retired Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw wrote Genesis 9:12-16 as a reminder that the rainbow is a actually a sign of God’s covenant never to flood the earth again like He did in the days of the prophet Noah.

As a Christian, I wholeheartedly support Treinen’s decision and I believe this is what every Christian athlete should be doing in these situations. No, that of course does not mean Treinen, nor any other athlete "hates" or has any sort of ill wishes for LGBTQ-identifying fans or people. It just means that they are standing firm in their faith, which does not align with the modern sexual ethic of transgenderism, homosexuality, bisexuality, non-binary identification, etc. Just as I wouldn’t expect a non-Christian athlete to wear a hat with a cross on it if there was a Christian Night in Major League Baseball.

There’s a reason the NHL moved away from Pride jerseys during warmups. Christian players were often put in a position where they felt they had to choose between their religious convictions and wearing the jersey. Those who declined frequently faced intense criticism from media outlets and activists. Just look at the reaction to former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov and former San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer when they chose not to participate.

The controversy created a difficult situation for everyone involved and ultimately contributed to the NHL's decision to discontinue specialty warmup jerseys. While the league later reversed course on its ban of Pride tape, MLB should consider a similar approach when it comes to Pride-themed jerseys and hats, allowing players to opt out without controversy or pressure.

If Faith and Family Night — which is often centered around Christian groups — isn't a stadium-wide event and is instead limited to a community activation where attendees can purchase tickets in a designated section and receive themed merchandise, then Pride Night should follow the same model. In my view, that would be a step in the right direction.

Well done, Blake Treinen. This is just another example of the mission that guides his life. Speaking with Will Dawson of CBN Sports, Treinen said, "How do we make heaven crowded? That's really my goal... When I am welcomed into the gates of heaven, I want to hear, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.'"

Steve Hilton launches ad mocking Xavier Becerra's '36 years' as a career politician in California gov race

California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton launched a new campaign ad Saturday targeting former Biden administration official Xavier Becerra, signaling the general election fight may already be underway even as primary ballots continue to be counted.

The 55-second ad mocks Becerra's lengthy political career and record in government, portraying the Democrat as a continuation of California's political status quo.

The ad features silent clips of Becerra appearing on an old-fashioned TV screen while captions flash across the screen, including: "I've been a career politician for 36 years. Vote for me."

Other captions reference issues likely to become central themes in the governor's race, including homelessness, California's high-speed rail project and Becerra's tenure as secretary of Health and Human Services in former President Joe Biden's administration.

The ad also attempts to tie Becerra to Gov. Gavin Newsom, ending with the message: "I'll change nothing about how California is governed," followed by the tagline, "Don't watch another rerun."

Fox News Digital reached out to the Becerra and the Hilton campaigns for comment.

The ad comes less than 24 hours after The Associated Press projected Becerra would advance to California's November gubernatorial election to succeed the term-limited Newsom.

As vote counting continued Saturday, Becerra led the field with 26.8% of the vote, according to AP totals. Hilton received 26.4%, while Democrat Tom Steyer had 21.1%.

Roughly 68% of ballots had been counted as of Saturday afternoon.

In a statement after the AP race call, Becerra celebrated the result and framed his campaign as a fight for California voters.

Becerra's campaign also said the result makes him the first Latino candidate to advance from a California gubernatorial primary to a general election, calling it a historic milestone for the state.

If elected in November, Becerra would become California's first Latino governor since Romualdo Pacheco, who briefly served as governor in 1875.

Becerra, a former California attorney general, served as Health and Human Services secretary during the Biden administration before launching his gubernatorial campaign.

Hilton, a former Fox News host and political commentator, has campaigned as a political outsider and agent of change, arguing California is headed in the wrong direction under Democratic leadership.

Results from Tuesday's primary have not yet been certified.

One hole, you're feeling like a PGA Championship winner and the next you feel like you never want to pick up a golf club again.

A guy who knows about that range of emotions all too well is Dustin Johnson.

The two-time major champion has obviously seen it all in the game of golf, and he was at the tee box on Saturday at the LIV Golf Andalucia event at Real Club Valderrama looking to make a run up the leaderboard.

DJ calmly ripped his tee shot as the ball took two hops on the green before rolling home for a hole-in-one.

The scene was complete pandemonium as both Johnson and the crowd could hardly contain their excitement.

Wait, that was it?

Does he know that he just aced it or did someone not tell him?

I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I've gotten more excited about keeping my 185-yard drive in the middle of the fairway on my municipal track than Johnson did about a hole-in-one during a sanctioned golf event.

Nonetheless, his nonchalant reaction drew the ire of amateur golfers and fans all over social media, knowing they'll never experience that same feeling.

Would it have killed him to show a little emotion? A fist pump, perhaps?

Either way, congrats to DJ on his ace today.

I'm sure despite his cavalier attitude about it, it probably still rocks to hit a hole-in-one no matter how many times you've done it before.

Why disappointment in qualifying may not spell the end of Ferrari's Monaco hopes this year

Everyone knows that qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix is the most important qualifying session on the Formula 1 calendar, because of how hard it is to overtake.

So, Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc starting P3 and P4, respectively (assuming damage Leclerc sustained in qualifying doesn't lead to a start from the back of the grid or the pit lane), is a bit of a disappointment, especially given a really strong weekend in practice and talk that their car is well suited for Monaco's many slow-speed corners.

But perhaps all is not lost, because it seems like Ferrari has one last shot at breaking up Mercedes and polesitter Kimi Antonelli's run of dominance this season.

Going into the weekend, a lot of the buzz around Ferrari had to do with their car's ability in lower-speed corners. This has to do with the turbo that's used in the Ferrari engine, which is smaller than ones used by competitors, meaning it gets up to speed faster, allowing for quicker acceleration.

Kind of key when you're exiting a slow corner, right?

Hamilton and Leclerc were the top two drivers in the first two practice sessions, while Antonelli beat them in FP3.

In qualifying, Antonelli continued his heroics to take pole, but what no one really saw coming was Max Verstappen doing Max Verstappen things and sticking his Red Bull on the first row.

Now, starting at Monaco from the second row is not ideal, considering that this is generally a race won from pole.

But...

Starts have been Ferrari's strong suit this season, while, crucially, Mercedes' — and more specifically Antonelli's — starts have been their biggest weakness.

On top of that, Verstappen's Red Bull has not always been the quickest off the line.

While starting from the front row is what Ferrari would've wanted, they still have a real shot to steal a win by outdragging the two cars on the front row into the first corner, Sainte Devote.

If they can do that, they might have a serious chance given Monaco's limited overtaking spots.

I think the one to watch here is Hamilton. In P3, he's starting a little farther up than Leclerc, but also has the benefit of the clean side of the grid to help him get off the line faster.

Of course, he'll have to make the move stick and then hang on to it.

Keeping a Kimi Antonelli in a Silver Arrow who has been driving out of his mind this season behind for an entire race will be a big challenge.

But if neither Ferrari can make an early move, barring any weather or goofiness, Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen have the edge.

The culture shock of a team from the Middle East ending up in Kansas City or the South Korean team making their way through Philly is something many have been looking forward to ever since the news of America being a host nation for the World Cup became a reality in 2022.

Soccer fans all over social media got their wish on Saturday, as the Spanish national team made their way through the gem of the Smoky Mountains, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and it's safe to say there was some confusion as to the pairing of team and venue.

Even the mere thought of a bunch of millionaire soccer players from metropolitan areas in Spain being exposed to East Tennessee is hilarious enough, but seeing their buses being escorted through the streets of downtown Chattanooga on a weekend while 85% of the people in the area couldn't pick some of their best players out of a lineup is a sight to behold.

The internet seemed to think so as well, as fans on X had an absolute field day with the videos coming out of the Volunteer State this weekend.

Here they are arriving at — gasp — The Embassy Suites in Chattanooga, as posh European soccer fans clutch their pearls that FIFA would dare hole a World Cup-winning nation up in such a fly-by-night establishment.

The horror!

We also got video of very dedicated fans chanting teenage sensation Lamine Yamal's name as he stepped off the team bus.

Hmm, maybe I was wrong about soccer fans in Tennessee. They seem to really know their stuff.

It is objectively hysterical thinking about a bunch of Tennessee natives cheering on an 18-year-old from Barcelona, but the game has really evolved in the 32 years since the United States last hosted a World Cup.

In all seriousness, it's cool to see these teams arriving in America and this year's World Cup should be a fun one to watch.

NYT panel debates whether Graham Platner is a ‘dirtbag’ or Democrats’ answer to Trump-era politics

New York Times Opinion panelists on Saturday debated Democrat Graham Platner's Maine U.S. Senate campaign on "The Opinions," asking whether his scandals, outsider image and support ahead of Tuesday's primary show how deeply President Donald Trump has changed voters' expectations for character in politics.

"Obviously, he’s not Donald Trump. I mean, he is the gateway drug to Trumpism. Let’s put it this way: If he wins and [Texas Senate candidate James] Talarico loses, the cry across the land, in that Democratic consultant class, will be: ‘Find me more Platners. We need more Platners. These are the guys who know how to win.’ And where have I heard this before?" columnist David French said.

The discussion on The New York Times Opinion podcast "The Opinions" centered on Platner’s bid to challenge Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and the repeated controversies surrounding his campaign.

Columnist Jamelle Bouie argued that Platner should not be compared directly to Trump, even while describing the Maine candidate in blunt terms.

Bouie said Platner's flaws placed him closer to Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., than to Trump or Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton. Fetterman successfully campaigned on a more working-class image in his 2022 victory.

"That’s versus Trump, who isn’t just a reprehensible person, but is actively engaged in harming other people in his private life, right?" Bouie said.

"And I’d say the same for Paxton: not just a slimy guy, but a guy whose modus operandi, as a human being, is to try to dominate the people around him in really ugly ways. And so, I think Platner is more on the John Fetterman continuum than he is on the Trump continuum, which is just kind of dirtbaggy."

French said the problem for Democrats was not just the number of controversies but the pattern they suggested about Platner's judgment.

"Yeah. The guy is waving red flags everywhere. It’s like he’s waving flags, ‘Abort, abort. No, don’t do this,’" French said. "Because it’s not just that he has a number of scandals. The nature of them, though, and the way that he’s responded to them, raises the possibility that he’s not the kind of person you would want in the United States Senate, to put it mildly."

French said he did not accept Platner's explanation that he did not understand the meaning of his old tattoo, which has Nazi connections.

Moderator Michelle Cottle asked whether character issues that once might have ended a campaign still mattered in a political environment shaped by Trump’s own scandals.

"As you’ve noted, with the morality question, Trump has basically blown that up," Cottle said. "When we talk about leadership and character, that’s almost laughable these days."

Bouie said Platner’s appeal may survive because the controversies fit the candidate’s political image as an unpolished outsider rather than undermine it.

"Unless these scandals or these revelations, or whatever you want to call them, tip into actual illegality or something extremely unethical," Bouie said. "I’m actually pretty confident he’ll weather all of them, because they are the kind of scandal that reinforces the political persona."

The best BCS-era college football teams that never played for a national championship

The conversation surrounding college football these days is all about whether or not an expanded playoff is the right move for the health of the sport.

Whether the College Football Playoff expands to 24 teams or not remains to be seen, but as a traditionalist, I miss the days of the BCS, when only two teams played for a national championship at the end of the season.

It was brutal for a large majority of the country, where one loss put all your team's hopes and dreams on life support, but it made for some insanely dramatic television week in and week out.

This era gave us some of the best champions in the history of the sport, but it also gave us some all-time teams who never played for a natty who more than deserved a shot.

Today, I'll be looking at five of the best teams to never play for a national championship in the BCS era.

Obviously, this is a very subjective ranking, so feel free to comment your choices below.

5. 2000 Miami Hurricanes

We all remember the 2001 Miami Hurricanes as one of the greatest college teams ever assembled, boasting a litany of NFL Draft picks on both sides of the ball like Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis and Ed Reed just to name a few, but what many people don't know is that the 2000 edition of that squad was just as good and may have gotten robbed of a rightful spot in the title game.

Heading into the new millennium, the Canes were a preseason top-five outfit, looking to finally put it all together after head coach Butch Davis had rebuilt the program with elite recruiting classes throughout the late 90s.

2000 was supposed to be the year it all clicked, but an early-season loss to the Washington Huskies put those dreams on hold.

Davis and the Hurricanes stayed the course throughout the year, though, winning the rest of their games on the schedule including a thriller over No. 1 Florida State and a blowout against second-ranked Virginia Tech.

Miami had the resume to excuse that week two loss to Washington, but in the final BCS ranking of the season, the Canes finished third, dashing their chances of competing for a title.

What makes that pill even harder to swallow is that archrival Florida State went on to play in the BCS National Championship despite the loss to the Hurricanes in October.

A Sugar Bowl beatdown of SEC champion and rival Florida only strengthened their argument that they were jobbed, but it fell on deaf ears as the Canes had to settle for finishing the season at No. 2.

The only thing that makes this less egregious is that Miami won a title the very next year, albeit without Jones, the architect behind the budding dynasty.

4. 2004 Auburn Tigers

Anyone who thinks the SEC always got the benefit of the doubt when it came to playing for national championships clearly wasn't around for the 2004 college football season.

Heading into that year, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville was on the hot seat after a lackluster 2003 campaign that started with a top-10 preseason ranking only to finish completely outside the polls.

Not many people were expecting much from the Tigers, but Tuberville rode the three-headed backfield monster of quarterback Jason Campbell and running backs Ronnie Brown and Carnell "Cadillac" Williams to a perfect regular season including three wins over top-10 teams.

Even after taking down Tennessee and winning the SEC, though, Auburn was left out of the BCS title game, ceding the floor to USC and Oklahoma.

The Tigers would head to the Sugar Bowl by way of conference tie-ins, and while another top-10 victory over Virginia Tech in New Orleans would sway several other pollsters to rank Auburn as the top team in the land, the big ones that counted awarded the Trojans with the crystal football instead.

WHICH TEAMS HAVE THE TOUGHEST STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE HEADING INTO COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON?

Over two decades later, the Tigers' administration finally recognized their 2004 team as national champions, and while I'm normally opposed to programs hanging phony banners (what's up, UCF), this one feels more than justified.

This is classic BCS madness and one of the biggest arrows in the quiver of the powers that be eventually abolishing the two-team system.

3. 2001 Florida Gators

Call me a homer if you want, but I came armed with some facts to back up this "baseless homerism."

As we discussed above, the 2001 Hurricanes were one of the best teams of all time, but their championship matchup against Nebraska, a team that didn't even win its conference, left much to be desired.

Their opponent in that title game should have been none other than Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators.

The 2001 Gators actually entered the season as the No. 1 team in the country, with a roster full of future NFL players like defensive end Alex Brown and wide receiver Jabar Gaffney in addition to Heisman hopeful Rex Grossman.

ALL-TIME TALENT, ZERO TITLES: THE MOST UNDERACHIEVING FRANCHISES IN NORTH AMERICAN SPORTS

They even carried that top ranking into a night game on the road against Auburn, but without All-American running back Earnest Graham, who was nursing an ankle injury, Florida struggled to move the ball consistently and lost by a field goal.

With their title hopes on the fritz, the Gators rattled off four-straight wins, three of which came against top-20 teams, setting up a showdown against top-five Tennessee in The Swamp.

If you're wondering why a game usually played on the third Saturday in September is taking place at the end of the season, I'd like to point out the year this took place.

The Florida-Tennessee game was supposed to happen on Sept. 15, 2001, just four days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks that rocked the nation.

As a result, the matchup was moved to the first weekend in December, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the visiting Vols.

Graham was once again unavailable due to an ankle injury sustained against FSU, and the Gators were sunk by just two points at home, missing out on the SEC Championship Game.

LSU would upset the Volunteers the very next week, though it's worth noting Florida bludgeoned that same Tigers team to the tune of 44 points and over 600 yards earlier that season.

The Gators would go on to win the Orange Bowl that year, lighting up the scoreboard in the process and leaving fans wondering "what if?"

Many Gator fans believe this was Spurrier's best team after the 1996 championship squad, and although I can't say whether they would have beaten Miami or not, they at least deserved a shot.

2. 2007 West Virginia Mountaineers

I've talked about this team in detail before, but the 2007 West Virginia Mountaineers are one of, if not the best team to never have a shot at a national title.

To the naked eye, this looks like a classic case of "had their chance and blew it."

Carrying the nation's best rushing offense and a No. 2 ranking in the BCS polls heading into their regular season finale against Pitt, the Mountaineers were a four-touchdown favorite over their rivals to the north.

West Virginia was coming off a 66-21 beatdown over a top-20 Connecticut team, and had all the momentum on their side.

1. 2011 Oklahoma State Cowboys

If you're looking for an example of "late stage BCS," the 2011 season is the perfect microcosm of why the two-team system was eventually torn down.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys were offensive juggernauts throughout much of the year, scoring at least 50 in four different Big 12 matchups.

Their aerial assault was paced by quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon in addition to offensive coordinator and future NFL head coach Todd Monken.

Everything was going swimmingly for the Cowboys until the day before their penultimate conference game, when a tragic plane crash took the lives of women's basketball coaches Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna.

The crash shook Oklahoma State's campus, and the football team was emotionally shaken heading into their road game in Ames, Iowa.

Those emotions reared their head as the Cowboys lost in double overtime to Iowa State, leaving the door open for a very controversial rematch between LSU and Alabama in the BCS Championship Game.

Fans argued that the Crimson Tide, who lost in overtime to the Tigers, didn't deserve a shot at redemption as they didn't even make it to their conference championship game.

Oklahoma State would go on to dismantle top-10 Oklahoma to close out the regular season, but that final cherry on top of their historic campaign wasn't enough to sway the BCS polls, as the Cowboys were relegated to a Fiesta Bowl appearance for their efforts.

Even after an overtime win against a top-five, Andrew Luck-led Stanford team, the best the 'Boys could muster was a Colley Matrix national title.

Close, but no cigar.

This was the final controversy that led to the end of the BCS, and it's easy to see why Oklahoma State fans felt robbed of a fair shot, especially given the circumstances.
