New York Republican in toss-up district gains momentum in key race to determine House control

An incumbent Republican congressman from New York now holds a surprising lead over his progressive opponent, according to a new poll.

The poll, which was conducted by PIX11, The Hill and Emerson College, found that Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., holds a 49%-44% lead over former Democratic U.S. Rep. Mondaire Jones. The two are running in New York’s 17th congressional district, and the poll comes a week before the Nov. 5 election.

The survey, which was published on Tuesday, was conducted Oct. 24 through Oct. 26 and has a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points. According to Emerson College, the data was collected via cell phone surveys.

Lawler gained a four-point increase in support, based on an earlier poll conducted by Emerson College. The other survey, conducted Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, found that Lawler had 45% of voters' support and put Jones at 44%.

The poll also found that 52% of voters have a favorable view of Lawler, compared to 44% of voters having a favorable view of Jones.

The district still leans blue in presidential election polls, and the survey found that half of voters support President Kamala Harris and 47% support former President Donald Trump.

"The top issue for voters in the 17th district is the economy, at 30%, followed by immigration (20%), housing affordability (15%), crime (11%), and threats to democracy (10%)," the findings read.

"Half (50%) of voters in the 17th district say they are worse off financially today than a year ago, while 32% say they are doing about the same, and 18% are better off."

Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said that the recent findings highlight a significant gender divide between voters.

"There is a stark gender divide in the 17th district, with men breaking for Lawler by 27 points, and women breaking by 16 for Jones, while men are more divided in the 18th district: 47% support Esposito and 46% support Ryan," Kimball explained. "Women break for Ryan by 20 points."

Earlier this month, Lawler was accused of dressing in blackface when photos of him dressed as Michael Jackson in October 2006 emerged. Lawler, a student at the time, said that his costume was intended to be complimentary and apologized for causing offense.

"Breaking News," an MSNBC banner insisted on Sunday night. "Trump's MSG rally comes 85 years after pro-Nazi rally at the famed arena." The far-left network's breathless report featured chilling black-and-white footage of the German American Bund's notorious National Socialist gathering, complete with swastika armbands and stiff-armed salutes.

Referring to Trump's packed-to-the rafters event at Madison Square Garden, MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart said: "But that jamboree happening right now, you see it there on your screen in that place, is particularly chilling because in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally – a rally where speakers voiced antisemitic rhetoric from a stage draped with Nazi banners." When a Jewish protester rushed the stage, Capehart explained, American storm troopers yanked his clothes off and beat him as he cradled his head in his arms.

Scary! But much more than that, this is disgusting, vile rubbish. And – as luck would have it – this also is spectacularly inaccurate.

The Nazi rally happened at the old Madison Square Garden at 8th Avenue and West 49th Street, home of today's Worldwide Plaza office and retail complex. Trump and his supporters were not "in that place," as MSNBC's misinformation claimed.

In fact, Trump's extravaganza was a mile south, at 8th Avenue and West 33rd Street, in a venue that began hosting events in 1968 – the same year that the old MSG was demolished and turned into a parking lot. Not only was the MAGA nation not on the same defiled ground as that pre-World War II Hitlerfest. The facility in question has not even existed for 56 years.

The entire premise of MSNBC's hyperventilation – and that of Hillary Clinton and other Trump haters – has collapsed like an arena pummeled by a wrecking ball. Too bad these Trumpophobes didn't spend five minutes on the Google machine to learn about MSG's three incarnations, the first two of which were razed. Perhaps drowning Trump in archival footage of swastika flags is just too important to engage in high-school-paper level fact-checking.

The left's entire Nuremberg-Rally-on-the-Hudson Big Lie suffers from more than just a fatally flawed timeline.

Trump's event, which I was pleased and proud to attend, bore no resemblance whatsoever to the 1939 occasion that has the left soiling themselves in fear.

Rather than ferocious U.S. storm troopers, I saw thousands of calm, cheerful men, women and children lined up from the middle of West 33rd Street and wrapped north and then east around 1 Penn Plaza – all the way to the middle of West 34th Street. They peacefully and patriotically waited in a cool autumn breeze to enter MSG.

Once inside – as far as I could tell – no Jews were yanked from the stage and pounded into submission. Au contraire, Trump advisor Stephen Miller, Trump's friend and golf partner Steve Witkoff, and Cantor Fitzgerald chief Howard Lutnick were welcomed to the stage. These Jewish gentlemen offered warm and passionate words of support for Trump.

The crowd – which filled every row, all the way to the top aisle behind the podium –cheered and applauded these speakers with abundant enthusiasm. Miller, Witkoff and Lutnick were permitted to leave the stage. All three were fully dressed, and none exhibited signs of physical assault or trauma.

In an even more dramatic departure from Nazism, Congressman Byron Donalds, R-Fla., and Death Row Records Co-Founder Michael "Harry O" Harris addressed the red-capped masses. These two Black men also endorsed Trump, to the enormous satisfaction of the mega-MAGA faithful.

The occasion also featured the characteristically fiery-yet-eloquent words of former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy – a Hindu distinctly lacking in blond hair and blue eyes. Ramaswamy (much like Miller) electrified the audience with his stirring advocacy of Trump and his policies.

The youngest major presidential contender in memory also said that gay Americans were welcome in the MAGA tent, so long as they agreed with Trump and his followers that men and boys have no place in women's and girls' sports, and gender transition should be limited to adults. "Gay marriage is fine, but hands off the kids!" is a MAGA tenet that enjoys widespread appeal across the ideological spectrum.

The event felt like a one-day Republican National Convention. The excitement, energy and camaraderie recalled one of those quadrennial nominating affairs. The speakers were also of that caliber. They included, among others, former congresswoman and recent GOP convert Tulsi Gabbard, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Hulk Hogan and Eric and Lara Trump.

The GOP nominee's other son was aghast at what inflation did to his family's recent fast-food tab. " If Donald Trump Jr. has sticker shock at McDonald’s, we have a serious problem in our country."

This occasion had its surreal qualities, political commentator Tucker Carlson noted. "Just another day following Bobby Kennedy, Jr., at a Donald Trump rally in Madison Square Garden ... Yeah, that's totally normal!"

Among the speeches and snippets of classic rock tunes such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Sweet Child of Mine," the campaign presented multiple new slogans on screens and in videos and hallway displays. Many are four words long, like Make America Great Again. They are caveman-simple, but direct, powerful, compelling and manly:

Melania Trump made a surprise appearance, to introduce her husband. As Donald J. Trump finally took the stage to a deafening ovation, Lee Greenwood serenaded the once and perhaps future First Couple with a live rendition of "I'm Proud to Be an American."

Trump himself spoke positively and optimistically about November 5 as "Liberation Day" and promised a fascinating combination of major tax cuts, deregulation, energy liberation, Elon Musk and Howard Lutnick to lead a massive federal budget-slashing effort, tariffs, and Golden Rule trade policy (regarding international commerce, do unto other nations as they do onto us). I call this supply-side protectionism. I like the first part better than the second. If anyone can fuse these two seemingly contradictory approaches, it would have to be Donald J. Trump.

Rather than a Thousand Year Reich, which Hitler promised Germany, Trump spoke warmly of "a new golden age."

The event's one sour note was comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's crack about an island made of garbage floating in the middle of the ocean: Puerto Rico. He was the day's first speaker and appeared when MSG was about half full. While the rest of his set was amusing, that line drew appropriately few laughs and, instead, something between silence and groans. Trump and his campaign have disassociated themselves from those remarks.

It's a damn shame that Hinchcliffe is a noxious distraction from an otherwise upbeat and extraordinary event in modern politics. And Adolf Hitler would have hated the whole thing.

Colorado Secretary of State site 'improperly' displayed partial passwords for voting systems

The Colorado Secretary of State's Office mistakenly posted a spreadsheet to its website with a hidden tab that included voting system passwords on Wednesday.

The Colorado Department of State issued a statement and acknowledged it was aware of the situation.

"The Colorado Department of State is aware that a spreadsheet located on the Department’s website improperly included a hidden tab including partial passwords to certain components of Colorado voting systems. This does not pose an immediate security threat to Colorado’s elections, nor will it impact how ballots are counted," the statement read.

The Colorado Secretary of State spokesperson told FOX31 that the partial passwords leaked do "not pose an immediate threat to Colorado’s elections, nor will it impact how ballots are counted."

EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING BEGINS IN DC, COLORADO

The state office said that Colorado elections include many layers of security and include two unique passwords for every election equipment component, which are kept in separate places and held by different parties.

"It goes without saying how significant this is," the Colorado GOP wrote to the Secretary of State’s Office. "We can only imagine that, since the discovery last week, you and your staff have been working tirelessly to remedy these vulnerabilities."

The state office added that passwords can only be used with physical in-person access to a voting system.

"Under Colorado law, voting equipment must be stored in secure rooms that require a secure ID badge to access. That ID badge creates an access log that tracks who enters a secure area and when," the state office said.

According to the state office, there is also 24/7 video camera recording on all election equipment.

MILLIONS OF VOTERS HAVE ALREADY CAST BALLOTS FOR NOV. 5 ELECTION

"Clerks are required to maintain restricted access to secure ballot areas, and may only share access information with background-checked individuals. No person may be present in a secure area unless they are authorized to do so or are supervised by an authorized and background-checked employee," the office explained.

The state office added that there is also a strict chain of custody requirements that track when a voting systems component has been accessed and by whom, stating it is a felony to access voting equipment without authorization.

Every Colorado voter votes on a paper ballot, which is then audited during the Risk Limiting Audit to verify that ballots were counted according to voter intent, the state office said.

Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dave Williams called the possible exposure of the election system's passwords "shocking."

"We hear all the time in Colorado from Secretary Griswold and Governor Polis that we represent the ‘Gold Standard’ for election integrity, a model for the nation," Dave Williams, Chairman of the Republican Party of Colorado said in a statement to FOX31. "One can only hope that by the Secretary of State posting our most sensitive passwords online to the world dispels that myth."

The Colorado Republicans also asked for confirmation or a plan regarding how the "exposed systems" will or still meet the certification requirements of a "trusted build," noting that a breach by a party with BIOS access may be difficult or impossible to identify.

"The Department took immediate action as soon as it was aware of this, and informed the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which closely monitors and protects the county’s essential security infrastructure. The Department is working to remedy this situation where necessary," the state office said.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Colorado Secretary of State and Colorado GOP for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Celtics' Joe Mazzulla hopes NBA institutes heightened level of physicality: 'Bring back fighting'

Since stepping into the Boston Celtics head coaching role, Joe Mazzulla has been willing to offer his unfiltered thoughts.

During a recent appearance on Boston's 98.5 The Sports Hub radio station, the spirited coach shared his latest perspective. If Mazzulla had his way, the NBA would introduce rules that would permit fights to take place during games.

The NBA championship winning coach cited the sport's entertainment value when he spoke about his hopes of seeing fights become an active part of the league.

"I think the biggest thing that we rob people from as an entertainment standpoint is you can't fight anymore," Mazzulla said. "I wish you could bring back fighting."

He then argued that "a little scuffle" was one of the most entertaining aspects of any game.

"I mean, you aren't talking about robbing the league of entertainment. What's more entertaining than when there is a little scuffle?"

The 36-year-old coach added that a power play, which would effectively give a brief advantage to the number of players on the court, should be on the table for the NBA.

"Hey, I mean, basketball is one of the only sports that doesn't have a power play," Mazzulla said.

"I think soccer just put in the 'blue card' where a guy has to go off, and it's a 10 on 9. Like we should have a power play. Because let's say you have a technical or let's say you get a take foul, and you get the one shot, but you're not really rewarded for that because if you miss it, you don't get the reward for that take foul. So there should be like a power play where on a take foul or on a technical, you have to play five on four for five seconds or three passes."

In June, Mazzula became the youngest coach to win an NBA title. He was 35 when the Celtics won a league record 18th championship.

Mazzulla's push for league-approved fights is not the first time his tenacity has been highlighted. During a Celtics-Suns game in March, Mazzulla attempted to block a player on the opposing team's shot.

In the fourth quarter of the game in question, Celtics star Jaylen Brown intercepted a pass and sprinted the other way for an impressive dunk. The turnover prompted a timeout, and Suns forward Royce O'Neale attempted to shoot the ball shortly after the whistle.

Players often casually throw up a shot that they know won't count after referees blow the whistle, but coaches do not normally attempt to contest it.

Mazzulla lunged and tried to block O'Neale's three-pointer, which ultimately bounced off the rim.

Mazzulla offered an explanation for his actions in the postgame press conference.

"I saw a guy going in to try to get a shot, and he hadn't made one. And I didn't want him to feel good about himself going to the bench," Mazzulla said. "[Boston Globe writer] Gary [Washburn] asked me about that a month ago, and that's a bench rule. Guys don't shoot shots in front of our bench to go back to their bench to feel good about themselves. If I'm gonna ask the guys to contest, the staff's gotta do the same."

The Celtics have gotten off to a 4-0 start this season. The Indiana Pacers host Boston on Oct. 30.

Nikki Haley says Trump is the ‘clear’ choice: ‘We know what we’re going to get’

As former presidential candidate Nikki Haley sits on standby to assist where she can with former President Trump’s campaign, she said he is the clear choice to serve as commander in chief, because "we know what we’re going to get."

Earlier this year, Trump and Haley were the final two Republican candidates seeking the party nomination, and at times the feud between them got ugly. But in the end, Trump ousted Haley for the party’s final approval.

The former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador was interviewed on "Special Report" by Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier on Tuesday, the same day Vice President Harris held an event at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., to sell her pitch to voters that Trump is a threat to democracy.

"A lot of Americans have decided where they are," Haley said, pointing out that Harris continues to go back to the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. "While she wants to go back to Jan. 6, what she doesn’t want to visit is what’s happened since Jan. 6, because we’ve had four years of record inflation. We’ve had unconscionable amounts of illegal immigrants, 500,000 criminal illegals alone coming across that border."

Haley also said Afghanistan fell under the Biden-Harris administration, unleashing a "world war" America is now dealing with.

She also spoke to Baier about who she believes is the best candidate to serve as president.

"It is clear. I mean, look, it's like what I said at the Republican National Convention. You don’t have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him," Haley said. "And so, for me, we have the choice. The choice is given. It’s either Donald Trump or it’s Kamala Harris. And for my family, what I’m looking at is the fact that my daughter says she can’t afford groceries. And I look at an economy that’s been tough for all of us."

She said she looks at her son, who worries about paying rent, and her husband, who is a combat veteran.

"All of these things have put us in a much more challenging position. With Donald Trump, we know what we’re going to get," Haley said. "I don’t agree with Trump 100% of the time, but I don't’ agree with Kamala Harris on anything."

Haley told Baier the last time she spoke to Trump was in June, and she was asked by the anchor if she was surprised that she had not been deployed to campaign for the Republican presidential nominee.

"They’re very aware that we’re on standby," she said. "They know that we would be there to help. I’ve helped with some fundraising letters and text messages and those types of things, so we’ve done that. But look, we’re on the same team. It’s their campaign’s decision on what he needs and these last final days. It does not bother me at all."

While she has not been tapped to campaign, Haley did offer advice to Trump and his campaign during Baier’s interview, saying it has to be a time of addition.

"This is not a time to have anyone criticize Puerto Rico or Latinos. This is not a time for them to get overly masculine with the bromance thing that they’ve got going on," Haley said. "Fifty-three percent of the electorate are women. Women will vote. They care about how they’re being talked to, and they care about the issues. They need to remember that this is a time of discipline, and this is a time of addition."

Trump pledges 'America's new golden age' as he rallies in PA's post-industrial third-largest city

"A very special hello to Allentown," former President Trump began his remarks at the PPL Center at the heart of Pennsylvania's third-largest city on Tuesday.

Trump's remarks followed several speeches by local candidates and notably Shadow Sen. Zoraida Buxo, R-P.R., who threw her support behind the GOP nominee after a comic at his Madison Square Garden rally caused controversy.

"Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" Trump asked the crowd at the arena, which is home to the Flyers affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms and has hosted performers such as Neil Diamond.

Trump spoke at length about the economy, a perennial issue since the time Billy Joel penned his famous anthem about the area's economic challenges in 1982.

He said the Democrats including Vice President Harris have helped "kill 50,000 manufacturing jobs this year alone," and pledged to "end inflation."

"Kamala has embarrassed us… she doesn't have what it takes," Trump said as he went on to promise "America's new golden age."

Trump later said Democrats are showing their desperation at the current state of the election, pointing to former First Lady Michelle Obama's several minutes of criticism during a recent address.

"Michelle Obama was very nasty to me… I've gone out of my way to be nice to Michelle – never said a bad thing about her when people didn't like her so much, but she hit me the other day because they're desperate."

Obama had condemned Trump's "lies and ignorance," and claimed his "failures had real costs."

However, most of Trump's remarks focused around his plan for his second nonconsecutive term, including securing the border and invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deal with the illegal immigrant deluge.

Trump was preceded by Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., whose district stands about 20 miles northwest of the rally site.

Meuser said Trump was right when he attempted to correct ABC News anchor David Muir during a recent debate, and took a shot at Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

"A quick word on this Tim Walz character – one thing you can say about him: He's much better at loading tampons into boys bathrooms than he is at loading a shotgun," he said.

The Republican who hopes to represent the Allentown area in Congress, State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-Macungie, also spoke, saying unseating incumbent Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pa., would help bring about the change Trump spoke of.

"We need leaders like Donald Trump who will make peace around the world," Mackenzie said.

State Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-Allentown, an airline pilot by trade who rose to local political prominence as a member of the Parkland School Board during the height of national controversies, used his remarks to criticize repeated claims that Republicans are the "extreme" party.

"Let's talk about who's really extreme here," Coleman said.

He pointed outside to the historic Soldiers & Sailors Monument in the middle of the 7th & Hamilton Street intersection, and said it was just several months ago that "Democrats, including Allentown Democrats, were calling to defend the police: that's extreme."

"Kamala Harris bailing out rioters instead of supporting law enforcement: that's extreme. Allowing abortion up until the moment of birth – thats extreme. Banning gas stoves and gas lawnmowers – folks, that's extreme."

"And yet those positions are the highlight reel from the party of Kamala Harris – We're at a tipping point, and that's why we're all here today."

"Fire the failure and hire the fighter," Coleman said.

However, not all high-profile Allentonians were praising Trump this week. On the latest episode of C-Span's Washington Journal, the city's former congressman, Republican Charlie Dent, spoke about how he will vote for Harris this year.

Dent, who frequently traded criticisms with Trump while in office, said he had policy disagreements with Harris, but that "sometimes, elections aren't about right or left in terms of policy. Sometimes, it's about right or wrong."

"I'm going to choose honorable over dishonorable," he said.

"[W]e’ve all seen the narcissism, the ADD, the impulse control issues, the temper, a lack of interest in policy," Dent added, according to Mediaite.

While the city itself is heavily Democratic, the suburbs are a mix of purple and red, leading to its position in many recent elections as the site of hard-fought narrowly-won victories for either side.

Trump won neighboring Northampton County in 2016, while President Biden took it back in 2020. Lehigh County, where Allentown is based, skews Democratic in county-wide and larger contests, but hosts a reliably red northern tier along Blue Mountain and southern tier, where former Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., hails from.

President Biden went viral Tuesday night for comments disparaging Trump supporters as his No. 2, Vice President Kamala Harris, made a major speech to voters calling for unity from the Ellipse right outside the White House.

During a virtual Harris campaign call with Voto Latino, Biden took a swipe at former President Trump's rally in Madison Square Garden, which made headlines after insult comedian Tony Hinchiffe made jokes mocking different ethnic groups, with one joke referring to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage."

"The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters," Biden said. "[Trump's] demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it is un-American."

The comment quickly went viral and sparked swift condemnation from critics.

"This is disgusting," Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance reacted. "Kamala Harris and her boss Joe Biden are attacking half of the country. There's no excuse for this. I hope American reject it."

"Biden just called half of America ‘garbage,'" Elon Musk said.

"Kamala Harris was deeply outraged by a comedian’s joke. If she has any decency or integrity, she will condemn her partner Joe Biden’s despicable statement calling half the country garbage," Sen Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said.

"Woof. Calls half the country ‘garbage’ while Harris speaks," CNN contributor Scott Jennings said.

"Well there he is. So outraged by Tony the comedian that the sitting president borrows the garbage characterization to apply it to half of America. I imagine the cable news set will be all over this tomorrow, right?" Ruthless podcast co-host Josh Holmes wondered.

"Just amazing that Biden managed to completely step on Kamala's speech in the worst way possible," Fox News contributor Joe Concha said.

"Shades of Hillary’s deplorables… I repeat: Lots of 2016 vibes in this election," Jewish Insider editor in chief Josh Kraushaar wrote.

"If you’re wondering why Biden wasn’t at the rally that Kamala Harris just held in front of his home," Business Insider reporter Bryan Metzger quipped.

Trump himself reacted to the "terrible" comment while speaking at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

"Remember Hillary? She said ‘deplorable' and then said ‘irredeemable,’ right? But she said ‘deplorable.' That didn't work out. ‘Garbage’ I think is worse," Trump said to his supporters. "But he doesn't know- you have to please forgive him. Please forgive him. For he not knoweth what he said."

"And I'm convinced he likes me more than he likes Kamala," Trump quipped.

Biden attempted to clarify his comments on social media.

"Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it," Biden wrote on X. "His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation."

A White House spokesperson had previously told Fox News, "The President referred to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage.’" The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Biden's comment comes in stark contrast to the message Harris gave to voters outside the White House in what many have called her final sales pitch to the American people ahead of the election.

"I pledge to seek common ground and common sense solution to make your life better. I am not looking to score political points. I am looking to make progress. I pledge to listen to experts, to those who will be impacted by the decisions I make and to people who disagree with me," Harris said at the Ellipse rally. "Unlike Donald Trump, I don't believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail. I'll give them a seat at the table."

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts leaped for the ball and made the catch, but apparently, he was in a danger zone.

A Yankee fan in the front row, quite literally, tried to rip Betts glove off of his hand and take the ball out - another fan held Betts' wrists as the ball eventually came out.

It’s questionable whether it was fair game for the fan to make a play on the ball - fans aren’t allowed to reach into the field of play, but if the ball is beyond the wall, it’s anybody’s ball.

Betts clearly wasn’t happy as the umpire signaled for the out while security also made their way over.

It wasn’t quite Jeffrey Maier, as that wound up being ruled a home run for the Yanks.

Both fans were escorted out of the stadium by security.

New York has lost the first three games of the World Series - Monday marked their first home game in the Fall Classic since winning it all in 2009.

The game started as Game 3 did: with a Freddie Freeman two-run home run - the eight-time All-Star is well on his way to being named the World Series MVP, as he has hit a homer in each game of this fall classic.

Article bashing Nick Bosa for MAGA hat was 'watered-down' version by major media outlet, writer says

NFL columnist Jim Trotter wrote a column criticizing the NFL and San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa for wearing a MAGA hat on live TV after his team beat the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night. However, he says his column didn't bash Bosa as hard as he wanted to.

Trotter wrote that the published version of his column was a "watered-down" version, saying his original draft did not adhere to the journalistic standards of The New York Times-owned sports news outlet, The Athletic.

"Full disclosure, this is the watered-down version of the original column. I was not allowed to properly, IMO, contextualize the significance and consequence of the moment because, I was told, I’d be in violation of the NYT’s journalistic standards regarding sports and political commentary. But that’s a discussion for another day," Trotter wrote in response to a post on X that shared his column.

Trotter later corrected himself.

"Correction: I should have referred to it as a violation of The Athletic’s journalistic standards and not the journalistic standards of the NYT," Trotter wrote.

The published version of Trotter's column included multiple passages critical of Bosa, and the writer suggested Bosa should face discipline for the stunt.

"Many could not focus on the message because of the messenger. My hope is that the same mistake is not made with Bosa. His actions are his actions. His personal beliefs are his personal beliefs. But if the goal of the NFL is to keep political expressions off its fields, then Bosa should face some type of discipline," one passage said.

Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL's rulebook states, "The league will not grant permission for any club or player to wear, display, or otherwise convey messages, through helmet decals, arm bands, jersey patches, mouthpieces, or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment, which relate to political activities or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns, or charitable causes or campaigns."

In another excerpt, Trotter said he would "have more respect" for Bosa if the defensive end spoke more about his beliefs after the game.

"As for Bosa, I’d have more respect for him if he stood 10 toes down in his beliefs. During his postgame meeting with the media, he literally switched hats and refused to discuss his demonstration," Trotter wrote.

Still, the column acknowledged Bosa has a right to his beliefs.

Fox News Digital has reached out to The New York Times for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.

A statement from The Athletic provided to Awful Announcing said, "The New York Times standards played no role in this process. The story went through the normal editing process at The Athletic. We don’t publicly discuss our editorial decision-making."

The incident involving Bosa's MAGA hat has become the subject of widespread debate after his team's win over the Cowboys Sunday night. The stunt has also been perceived to have been censored by NBC, the network responsible for broadcasting the game.

Witnesses say they saw an edited version of the postgame interview on NBC's social media handles that edited Bosa out of the clip. However, an unedited version that includes Bosa is the most recent video posted by NBC's handles.

It wasn't the first time Bosa has gone public with his support for Trump. He revealed in 2019 that he scrubbed his X account of Trump posts and Colin Kaepernick criticism over fears he may not be fully embraced by the city of San Francisco should he be drafted by the 49ers.

Bosa was later asked about his decision to send a political message on the field Sunday night, but he declined to elaborate.

"I'm not going to talk too much about it, but it's an important time," Bosa said in a postgame press conference.

Longtime sports broadcaster Bomani Jones challenged Bosa to "speak up."

Jones noted that Bosa made the decision to show his support for a political candidate in a public forum.

"Somebody asked him about it in the press conference after the game. I mean, he was putting on for Trump. What do you mean you aren’t gonna talk too much about it, partner? You made that call; you did that. You brought us here. You decided that you wanted to put that out there, and that’s an important time," Jones said on the latest edition of "The Right Time with Bomani Jones."

"Now, to me, the question to ask there is why is it an important time? Because I don’t know that dude."

Former Chicago Bears player Brian Urlacher expressed his support for Bosa. He commented on Bosa’s Instagram post, in which the 49ers defensive lineman posted photos, including the moment he showed the supportive Trump cap.

"MAGA," Urlacher wrote in the comments section, along with two American flags.

Authorities in Nashville shared shocking footage showing a driver crashing into a patrol car while an officer was initiating a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m., a Nashville police officer saw a silver Dodge Challenger driving at a high rate of speed near downtown Nashville.

Officials said the officer then turned on his lights and attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the driver was slow to stop and began driving recklessly and making donuts in the roadway.

After completing multiple donuts, the vehicle was facing the officer's patrol car, where he is seen accelerating and hitting the officer's car head on.

Authorities said the officer was injured during the incident and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and later released.

The driver then drove behind the patrol car, continued doing donuts and then fled the scene.

The driver, who police identified as Carlos Esquivel, 22, surrendered to police downtown late Tuesday morning.

He was booked into jail and is being held on a $27,500 bond.

Israel's strike on Iran took out missile defense systems, Islamic Republic 'is essentially naked'

Israel took out three of Iran's Russian-made S-300 missile defense systems during last week's retaliatory strike against the Islamic Republic, Fox News has learned.

Israel carried out the strategic airstrike on Oct. 26, marking a significant escalation in the conflict between the two countries during the operation’s chosen name, "Days of Repentance." The strikes targeted critical military infrastructure, delivering both a symbolic and tactical blow to Iran’s strategic capabilities following Tehran's attack on Israel weeks earlier.

ISRAEL BEGINS RETALIATORY STRIKES AGAINST IRAN FOLLOWING MISSILE BARRAGE TARGETING ISRAELIS

The Biden administration was informed about Israel's strike in advance. The targets were chosen in an effort to send a pinpoint message to Iran and to degrade its ability to fire ballistic missiles at Israel anytime soon.

At the start of the year, Iran only had four S300 surface-to-air missile systems. In April, Israel took out one of the missile systems in response to Iran's first ballistic missile attack. A senior U.S. official confirmed the airstrikes took out the three S-300 missile systems.

"The majority of Iran’s air defense was taken out." a senior Israeli official told Fox News.

On an internal call, President Biden's adviser for the Middle East, Amos Hochstein, said "Iran is essentially naked" with no more missile defense.

IT WAS 'WISE' FOR ISRAEL TO NOT STRIKE IRANIAN OIL, NUCLEAR FACILITIES, SAYS FORMER USS COLE COMMANDER

Israeli warplanes also took out multiple radar systems that are needed to guide the same ballistic missiles that were fired at Israel in April and on Oct. 1 when Iran fired 181 ballistic missiles at the Jewish state. Many of the missiles were destroyed before reaching their target, and others caused minimal damage, the Department of Defense said.

Removing the radar systems prevents Iran from firing those missiles in the future, a senior official said.

"Our message is very, very clear… ‘Any threat, anywhere, at any time, we will know how to reach it, we will know how to strike,’" said Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi.

Halevi emphasized that Israel had only deployed a portion of its capabilities, suggesting that further actions could be taken should Iran escalate.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has urged Iran not to respond to Israel's strikes.

"We believe that this should be the end of this tit-for-tat," Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said during a meeting today with reporters. "We don't think that Iran should or needs to respond. On Oct. 1, Iran launched the 200 ballistic missiles that were targeting civilian population centers. Israel's response was targeted at military targets."

"We see this as a way to off-ramp," she added.

Trump denies knowing comedian who told crude joke about Puerto Rico: 'I have no idea who he is’

Former President Trump said he has "no idea" who comedian Tony Hinchcliffe is after the comic ignited a firestorm of controversy over the weekend at his rally in New York City's Madison Square Garden, calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."

"I have no idea who he is. Somebody said there was a comedian that joked about Puerto Rico or something. And I have no idea who it was. Never saw him. Never heard of him, and don't want to hear of him. But I have no idea," Trump told "Hannity" in an interview set to air Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. "They put a comedian in, which everybody does, you throw comedians in, you don't vet them and go crazy. It's nobody's fault. But somebody said some bad things."

Hinchcliffe received a wave of condemnation and criticism from both sides of the political aisle, including from Republican Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio and Florida Reps. Carlos Gimenez and María Elvira Salazar.

Danielle Alvarez, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the Puerto Rico joke "does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign."

Trump doubled down on his knowledge of Hinchcliffe, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity, "Now what they've done is taken somebody that has nothing to do with the party, has nothing to do with us, said something, and they try and make a big deal. But I don't know who it is."

"I don't even know who put him in, and I can't imagine it's a big deal. I've done more for Puerto Rico than any president I think that's ever – that's ever been president," Trump claimed.

Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny shared a campaign video from Vice President Kamala Harris to his millions of followers on Instagram in the wake of the crass joke about her plans for the U.S. territory.

The Harris-Walz campaign took aim at Trump for his administration’s "failed" preparation and response to Hurricane Maria in 2017, which devastated the island and left thousands dead.

"Trump did not acknowledge the scale of Puerto Ricans’ suffering—instead, he patted himself on the back and lied about the death toll while most of Puerto Rico lived without clean water and electricity. Rather than deliver meaningful relief for Puerto Ricans, he visited the island to toss paper towels at a crowd," read a portion of the campaign’s four-page plan for Puerto Rico.

Popular Puerto Rican rapper and singer Don Omar, who boasts millions of followers across his social media platforms, announced Tuesday he is supporting Harris.

"Puerto Rico is my homeland and my identity, and today, more than ever, I raise my island’s flag with pride. Hearing such racist and disdainful words directed at my home and at Latinos is heartbreaking. Trump has shown us, time and again, what he thinks of us, and the thought of him and his administration back in power is deeply concerning," he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Norberto Dominguez, a precinct captain with the local Democratic Party in Allentown, Pa., which is home to a large Puerto Rican population, told Politico that Hinchcliffe’s comments were "spreading like wildfire through the community."

"It’s not the smartest thing to do, to insult people — a large group of voters here in a swing state — and then go to their home asking for votes," Dominguez said.

Trump is slated to hold a campaign rally at the PPL Center in Allentown on Tuesday night.

SWAT standoff with shots fired at Atlanta luxury hotel ends as barricaded suspect is apprehended by police

The Atlanta Police Department and SWAT teams responded to a Georgia luxury hotel in downtown Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon, after an armed suspect barricaded himself inside and allegedly started shooting.

During a press conference at approximately 5:15 p.m., Atlanta Police Department's Chief Darin Schierbaum and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens provided additional information about the incident.

Schierbaum identified 70-year-old J. Stevens Berger as the suspect, saying he was suffering from a mental health crisis and had an altercation with a hotel employee at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Berger lived at the hotel and was spotted during the incident on his balcony wearing a red mask.

Berger had access to multiple weapons, including knives and guns, police said, and added they believe that he fired at least 15 shots.

"While the efforts were underway, he began firing a weapon," Schierbaum said. "We believe he fired at least three different weapons; handguns, shotguns and rifles, that fired through the walls."

One witness told Fox News affiliate WAGA that the incident felt like something out of the video game "Grand Theft Auto."

"We heard 10 shots. We walked outside, got everything on camera – the man throwing couches, shooting – very chaotic, very random," Khalil Hagans said. "This is Atlanta. This is not a real place."

Another witness told the news station that police prevented them from moving anywhere due to the active shooter.

"So, we looked up, and we was trying to look for him, and we seen him. We look at him for like five seconds and next thing you know 'boom, boom, boom,' he starts shooting again. So, it was like, we ducked behind here, and we just watching him," said Jordan Hall. "It was like we were in the middle of a movie."

One Atlanta police officer was injured with non-life-threatening injuries, police said, which ordered a shelter-in-place after the shooting started. At least two other officers returned fire, police said.

Police said that multiple charges are expected to be filed against Berger, including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

"We saw bravery, we saw an effort to preserve life," Schierbaum said.

The update from police came after the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that they were investigating a barricaded suspect at the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown where there were reports of gunfire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that the thousands of North Korean soldiers expected to reinforce Russian troops on the front line in Ukraine are pushing the almost three-year war beyond the borders of the warring parties.

Western leaders say North Korea has sent some 10,000 soldiers to help Russia’s military campaign and warn that its involvement in a European war could also unsettle relations in the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan and Australia.

NORTH KOREA AND RUSSIA SEND POLITICAL SHOCKWAVES WITH UKRAINE WAR MOVES

Zelenskyy said he spoke to South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and told him that 3,000 North Korean soldiers are already at military bases close to the Ukrainian front line and that he expects that deployment to increase to 12,000.

At the Pentagon on Tuesday, spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said a "relatively small number" of North Korean troops are now in Russia's Kursk region, where Russian troops have been struggling to push back a Ukrainian incursion, and a couple thousand more are heading in that direction.

South Korea, which has been in close contact with NATO, the U.S. and the European Union about the latest developments, warned last week that it could send arms to Ukraine in retaliation for the North's involvement.

"There is only one conclusion — this war is internationalized and goes beyond the borders" of Ukraine and Russia, Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

The Ukrainian president also said he and Yoon agreed to step up their countries' cooperation and exchange more intelligence, as well as develop concrete responses to Pyongyang's involvement.

In Washington, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan met Tuesday with Zelenskyy's top adviser to discuss the North Korean troops as well as a coming surge of weaponry that the U.S. is delivering to Kyiv to help the Ukrainians harden protection of their energy infrastructure, according to White House officials familiar with their private talks.

Sullivan and Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, shared concerns that North Korean troops could be deployed to Russia's Kursk region and what such a development could mean for the conflict.

The officials, who were not authorized to comment publicly, said during the two-hour meeting at the White House, Sullivan also briefed Yermak on President Joe Biden’s plans to push additional artillery systems, ammunition, hundreds of armored vehicles and more to Ukraine before he leaves office in January.

Sullivan told Yermak that by year’s end, the U.S. administration plans to provide Ukraine with 500 additional Patriot and ARAAM missiles to help bolster air defenses, according to the officials.

Meanwhile, North Korea said its top diplomat is visiting Russia in another sign of their deepening relationship.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula are at their highest point in years, with North Korea continuing a run of provocative weapons tests and South Korea and the U.S. expanding their military drills.

Russian drones, missiles and bombs smashed into Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s biggest cities, in nighttime attacks, killing four people and wounding 15 in a continuing aerial onslaught, authorities said Tuesday.

Russia has bombarded civilian areas of Ukraine almost daily since its full-scale invasion of its neighbor, causing thousands of casualties.

The Russian army is also pushing hard against front-line defenses in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed Tuesday that Russian troops captured the Donetsk town of Hirnyk and the villages of Katerynivka, and Bohoiavlenka.

Zelenskyy also spoke about the war at a meeting Tuesday in Reykjavik with the leaders of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden. He said a conference will begin in Canada on Wednesday to address the abduction of what he said were tens of thousands of children by Russia from Ukraine’s occupied territories.

A Russian aerial attack struck Kharkiv, in Ukraine’s northeast, at around 3 a.m., hitting a house and killing four people, regional Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said. Nearly 20 houses were damaged in the attack, he said.

Several hours earlier, Russia dropped a glide bomb on the landmark Derzhprom building in the Kharkiv city center, injuring seven people, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. Derzhprom, also known as the Palace of Industry, is being considered for inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Terekhov said Russia has concentrated attacks on Kharkiv in recent days. He urged people not to ignore air raid warnings.

Authorities in Kyiv said debris from intercepted Russian drones fell on two city districts, injuring six people.

Ukraine has also used long-range drones to disrupt Russia’s war machine and embarrass the Kremlin by striking targets on Russian soil.

A special forces academy in the Russian province of Chechnya was hit by drones, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished, according to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who is close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It was the first drone attack of the war on Chechnya, which lies about 800 kilometers (500 miles) east of Ukraine.

Walz mocks Trump's age at Georgia rally, says he 'does qualify for Social Security'

Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz mocked former President Trump’s age during a Tuesday evening rally in Georgia.

Walz criticized Trump’s proposal to stop taxing Social Security checks while quipping that Trump himself would be eligible for the program, which is for Americans aged 62 and older.

"Now, Trump came out with a plan that if we execute his plan, Social Security will go broke in six years," he said, referring to a recent analysis of the effect of Trump’s tax proposals on Social Security.

"Social Security might not be very important to a guy like that. If you're a billionaire and your dad gave you $400 million – you pretty much squandered all that, but you can just limp along on $400 million…he doesn't care. He doesn't care that he gets a check."

The crowd whooped as Walz quipped, "Now he is nearly 80, so he does qualify for Social Security."

"He does qualify, but he doesn't give a damn. My mom cars who's nearly 90. She uses her Social Security check," Walz said. "[Democratic 2024 nominee Vice President Kamala Harris] and I will protect Social Security and Medicare and make it stronger."

The former president's age has been a favorite political cudgel for Harris allies since 81-year-old President Biden dropped out of the race.

The recent analysis from the Committee For a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), however, accused both Trump and Harris of a lack of sufficient answers on Social Security.

On her campaign website, Harris promised to "protect" Social Security "by making corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share in taxes," though it does not elaborate much further.

"Unfortunately, neither candidate has presented plans to fix Social Security’s finances despite the looming $16,500 cut facing a typical couple retiring just before insolvency," the CRFB analysis said.

It did project, however, that Trump’s stated tax and tariff policies would advance the program’s expected solvency from fiscal year 2034 to FY 2031.

The former president has vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare during numerous public appearances on the campaign trail. He told supporters as recently as Monday evening at his own Georgia event, "I'm the one that's going to make Social Security strong again."

The evening rally was Walz’s last public stop in Georgia on Tuesday after multiple public events.

Both the Harris and Trump campaigns have poured enormous amounts of time and resources into the Peach State, which Biden won by less than 1% in 2020.

The Trump campaign’s Georgia spokesperson Morgan Ackley said of Walz’s day-long swing, "Since Kamala Harris said she wouldn't have done anything different from Joe Biden, Tim Walz is campaigning for another four years of unmanaged illegal immigration, skyhigh prices, and war abroad."

"Georgia voters know President Trump will fix what Kamala Harris broke and flock to the ballot box for his America First Agenda on November 5th," Ackley said.

Lions' Jameson Williams confronted by police for carrying gun in car just 2 weeks before PED suspension

Roughly two weeks before he was suspended for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing policy, Jameson Williams almost went to jail.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver and his brother, who was driving, were pulled over. During the traffic stop, two weapons were found inside the car, one belonging to each brother.

Williams' brother has a concealed pistol license (CPL), but Williams did not. Williams' brother told officers that both guns belonged to him, but Williams admitted he owned the other gun.

The third-year player told an officer he played for the Lions several times, but an officer said that did not affect whether he'd be arrested.

Williams said he had the gun "for protection" since he lives in Detroit. He was eventually placed in handcuffs and placed in the back of a police cruiser after being told he'd be arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.

Eventually, after a sergeant made some calls to higher-ranking officials, Williams was let go. The sergeant's phone background was a Lions logo, according to bodycam footage.

The sergeant told responding officers he was "so mad" at both of them, although Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis said that was said in a "jovial way."

After a lieutenant told the sergeant the brothers could be let go, the sergeant told the lieutenant he is a "[expletive] hero" and thanked him. That is when Williams was removed from handcuffs and let go without further issue.

The police department is now investigating why Williams and his brother were let go.

"I feel that there was probable cause to arrest, and he was under arrest by the patrol officer," McGinnis said. "And because of that, he should have been conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center and processed."

"I want to know if the fact that this individual was a Detroit Lions player, did that play a factor in the decision making?" he added, saying police Chief James White is "p---ed off" about the ordeal.

In a statement, the Lions said Williams "made us aware immediately that he was a passenger in a routine traffic stop on October 8th.

"We discussed the incident with him and have kept the league informed of what we know," the statement added. "We understand he was released without incident or citation. It is now our understanding that the Detroit Police Department is revisiting the matter. Jameson has hired an attorney, and we will not be commenting further out of respect for the legal process."

The Detroit Police Department released the following:

"This investigation continues to evolve, and new information has come to light that we are actively addressing. We take every investigation seriously, especially when new allegations and facts emerge, and we are committed to acting in a swift and transparent manner.

"Once new facts are confirmed, we make the necessary changes in our decision-making process.

"Let it be clear: no one in the city of Detroit is above the law. Anyone who commits a crime will be held accountable, regardless of their position or status."

Williams is serving a two-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug violation. The Lions didn't miss him too much over the weekend, putting up 52 points against the Tennessee Titans.

This is not Williams' first suspension. He missed six games last season for violating the league's gambling policy.

One of Puerto Rico's two "shadow senators" endorsed former President Trump only days after comic "Kill Tony" Hinchcliffe delivered a widely-criticized set demeaning the island protectorate at the Republican's New York City rally.

Shadow Sen. Zoraida Buxo, a Republican, said she was proud to be back in Allentown, Pennsylvania's third-largest city, and the anchor of a key swing congressional district. Shadow Senators are elected officials who are not seated in the upper chamber, but are tasked with advocating for their territory and its statehood.

In a recent Fox News Digital interview, Allentown Democratic Mayor Matt Tuerk said that for the first time, the city – settled by English loyalist William Allen and historically Pennsylvania Dutch – is Latino-majority. Only Hazleton and Reading reportedly have a higher proportion as of 2022.

Allentown's population is estimated at 126,000, and about one-quarter is Puerto Rican.

Buxo nodded to that development in her speech, about two hours prior to Trump's estimated speaking time. The president had been delayed leaving another event in Delaware County earlier in the day.

Buxo said she is reminded of her home island's "steadfast conservative values of community, family, faith and deep love of country."

"That is home. That is Puerto Rico," she said.

Without mentioning Hinchcliffe by name in her address, she appeared to reference the controversy, saying "we won't get rattled, we won't yield to ignorance [or] foolishness… we will remain focused on what is very important."

Buxo slammed the "failed policies" of the Biden-Harris administration, touching on border security, law enforcement and the economy.

She said there are nearly six million Puerto Ricans living stateside, and that about 500,000 reside in Pennsylvania.

"We Hispanics are part of the soul of this country. We have made a difference, and we will again make a difference in this coming election to bring about much-needed change," she said.

"I urge you to watch out and stay focused on what is truly important when you go to cast your vote … We need change and Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are not the option to bring about the kind of change that you need and want."

She closed her remarks with the endorsement:

"We need the leadership of Donald J. Trump as our Commander-in-Chief and Dave McCormick for a renewed leadership in the United States Senate," she said.

Meanwhile, outside the rally – held at the PPL Center hockey arena and entertainment venue home to the Flyers affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms -- a billboard reportedly displayed the Washington Post's headline following Trump's Madison Square Garden Event.

Flipping between Spanish and English, according to the New York Times, the type read "Trump rally speakers lob racist insults, call Puerto Rico ‘island of garbage."

Conversely, the prayer to kick off the event was recited by Roberto Albino, who called himself a "proud Puerto Rican" and complimented Trump.

Tensions at the Washington Post escalated on Tuesday after a company-wide meeting aimed at addressing the fallout over the paper's lack of presidential endorsement backfired internally.

NPR reported Tuesday that The Post has shed more than 250,000 subscribers since it revealed its editorial board would not formally endorse a presidential candidate despite planning to endorse Harris last week. The decision sparked an immediate uproar at the "Democracy Dies in Darkness" paper. At least two members of the Post's staff have resigned from the paper, while another two left the editorial board while staying on staff. Washington Post journalists are reportedly worried that the sudden loss in subscribers could lead to job cuts.

The paper's executive editor, Matt Murray, addressed the canceled subscriptions in a staff meeting Tuesday afternoon, telling employees that he could not provide a number of canceled subscriptions because he was unaware of the total amount to date, a Washington Post insider who was present at the meeting told Fox News Digital.

His feigned ignorance infuriated staffers, according to the source, who accused Murray of lying to hundreds of reporters to save face.

"No one believes a word he's saying -- that he doesn't know the subscriptions is beyond belief," the insider said. "He did indicate he was afraid of leaks… be honest [he can say] 'I know the number, it's not great, but I'm hopeful it will stabilize etc.'"

At another point during the meeting, Murray apologized for the backlash the endorsement decision caused the paper and expressed appreciation for the dedication of his staff, before declaring, "It’s done, it’s happened," the insider told Fox News Digital.

Murray said he didn't want to know the number of canceled subscriptions because he was convinced they would bounce back with time. He acknowledged the losses were "substantial" and predicted a "bumpy" road ahead but said he was not informed of any imminent job cuts or downsizing.

His attempt to reassure a riled newsroom was "unsatisfactory and only made things worse," the source said.

A trio of Post reporters wrote in a column Sunday that positive internal momentum at their place of employment "came to a halt" on Friday when the paper revealed it would not endorse a presidential candidate. In the days since, an onslaught of readers posted on social media about canceling subscriptions in protest, prompting Washington Post reporters to fret over how many subscribers would ultimately walk away.

"A cancellation movement swept through social networks. Instead of using an internal analytics tool to check traffic to their own stories, some Post journalists used it to chart the soaring number of subscribers visiting the customer account page that allows them to cancel their subscriptions," Post reporters Manuel Roig-Franzia, Herb Scribner and Laura Wagner wrote in a piece headlined "For The Post, more outrage from readers who say they’ve canceled."

An endorsement of Harris was reportedly drafted and ready to publish before it was suddenly shelved last Friday. The paper, which has been reliably hostile to former President Trump for years, has endorsed a Democrat for president in every election since 1976, except for when it skipped one in 1988.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who bought the paper in 2013, penned an op-ed defending The Post's decision, insisting that newspaper endorsements "do nothing to tip the scales of an election" but instead "create a perception of bias." He doubled down on The Post's decision to end its presidential endorsements by saying it's a "principled decision, and it's the right one."

The staff meeting comes a day after former WaPo executive editor Marty Baron, who held Murray's position for nearly a decade before retiring in 2021, torched Bezos for "betraying the principles he professed" and called non-endorsement decision "a serious mistake" that has "done enormous damage to the brand of the Washington Post."

The Washington Post did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

10 injured after cars on giant pendulum ride break apart midair, horrifying video shows

Terrifying video has been released showing the moment two gondola cars detached from a high-flying amusement park ride and crashed, leaving ten people injured, including six critically.

It happened Saturday at a traveling fairground in Ecuador during festivities in La Aurora in the western province of Daule Canton. The cars broke off the swing-like pendulum ride, according to Jam Press Vid.

Video shows the thrill ride appearing to become unstable with a loud horn going off. As the gondola arm swings back and forth, it then clips a rail on the ride’s platform, and a thundering bang can be heard.

The videographer runs for cover with other screaming onlookers before another crashing sound is heard.

One car collapsed on the platform of the ride with the passengers still strapped into their seats, the video shows. The other crashed to the ground on the other side, per Jam Press Vid.

Video shows people then surrounding and helping the victims. Two men strapped into the gondola appear dazed, while a female lies on the floor of the platform.

Witnesses said blood was visible on the crashed gondolas.

Pendulum rides consist of a gondola, an arm and an axle. The ride is based on the motion of a fixed pendulum, with one end of the arm is fitted with a passenger-carrying gondola, while the other is attached to the axle. The passengers on the gondolas are swung back and forth.

Lt. Col Ricardo Armas, a police spokesperson, said one of the mechanical arms unexpectedly came loose, causing the cars to detach.

He added that officers closed down the traveling fair and cordoned off the faulty ride. An investigation is underway to determine the cause.

Fire Department Chief Moisés Cano said six of the 10 victims had fractures and head trauma. They were hospitalized in intensive care.

The organizers have vowed to cover the cost of the victims' medical bills.

Risk Management official Stalin Quiñónez said the attraction had all the required permits and was in full working order prior to the detachment.

"Unfortunately, this mishap occurred, a very unfortunate event, but we do not know what caused it yet," Quiñónez said. "The investigations will be able to determine what happened."

Car is better for holiday travel than plane, many Americans say

When it comes to Americans arriving at their holiday destinations this year, many have a preferred way to journey.

Motel 6 and Studio 6 have released the results of their 2024 Holiday Travel survey — sharing that more travelers prefer to drive.

Results found that more than half of people, or 51%, say they plan to drive to their destinations while 13% plan to fly.

The survey, done by Talker Research, asked 2,000 Americans who celebrate winter holidays.

"There's just something comforting and nostalgic about packing into the family car with a trunk filled with gifts and casseroles and road-tripping to your holiday celebrations," said Julie Arrowsmith, president and CEO of G6 Hospitality, in a press release.

Arrowsmith added, "It's no surprise we are seeing an uptick in this trusted travel choice this year given the current environment."

Twenty-six percent of Americans say they drive because it is cheaper than flying.

A spokesperson for AAA told Fox News Digital via email that driving gives travelers more flexibility with their departure times.

"Driving is always the overwhelming favorite, because it tends to be cheaper and more convenient for most people," said the spokesperson.

"Typically, 85%-90% of holiday travelers drive – and 7%-8% fly – and the rest will go by bus, train, or travel by cruise."

Pentagon says 'small number' of North Korean troops in Russia's Kursk region; Biden concerned

The Pentagon confirmed Tuesday that a "small number" of North Korean troops are in Russia’s Kursk region near the Ukrainian border, adding that a couple of thousand more soldiers are expected to arrive at any time.

Last week, White House National Security communications director John Kirby confirmed that between early to mid-October, North Korea moved at least 3,000 troops into eastern Russia.

Now, the Pentagon says about 10,000 North Korean troops have been sent to Russia, and they are preparing to be sent to the battle lines alongside Russian troops in their fight against Ukraine.

"We believe that the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] has sent approximately 10,000 soldiers in total to train in eastern Russia, and that these troops will probably augment Russian forces near Ukraine over the next several weeks," Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters during a news briefing Tuesday. "A portion of those soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine towards Russia's Kursk Oblast, near the border with Ukraine."

Ryder said the troops are in addition to a couple of thousand others already in the Kursk region, adding the Department of Defense (DoD) is concerned that Russia intends to use the soldiers in combat or to support combat operations against Ukraine.

"Indications that there's already a small number [of North Korean troops] that are actually in the Kursk Oblast, with a couple of thousand more that are either almost there, or due to arrive imminently," he said.

The Pentagon could not confirm whether the North Korean soldiers were in fact inside Ukraine, yet.

"Initial indications are that these troops will be employed in some type of infantry role," Ryder reiterated. "But again, what that could be remains to be seen. So, we're going to continue to monitor closely."

NORTH KOREA HAS SENT TROOPS TO RUSSIA, PENTAGON CONFIRMS

Like the DoD, President Biden expressed concerns about North Korean soldiers preparing for battle against Ukraine in Russia.

After speaking about infrastructure in Baltimore on Tuesday, a reporter asked Biden if he was worried about North Korean troops in Russia.

"I am concerned about it, yes," he said.

Biden was then asked if Ukrainians should strike back.

"If they cross into Ukraine, yes," Biden said.

Intelligence officials in both South Korea and Ukraine had previously stated that North Korean troops were being transferred to Russia.

"What exactly are they doing? Left to be seen. These are things that we need to sort out," Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said.

SOUTH KOREAN INTELLIGENCE SAYS NORTH HAS SENT TROOPS TO AID RUSSIA'S WAR IN UKRAINE

Russia and North Korea have denied the troop movements.

South Korean National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong told lawmakers that North Korea plans to deploy 10,000 troops to Russia by December, a number that lines up with claims from Ukrainian intelligence.

South Korea said last week that it may start sending weapons to Ukraine in reaction to the deployment. Officials said their response would come in phases linked to the depth of cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

North Korea and Russia, locked in separate confrontations with the West, have sharply boosted their cooperation in the past two years. The U.S., South Korea and their partners have accused North Korea of supplying artillery shells, missiles and other conventional arms to Russia to help fuel its war against Ukraine in return for economic and military assistance.

In June, Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a pact stipulating mutual military assistance if either country is attacked.
